Engineer's Workshop

Advanced Design and Robotics-New for 2013!

Entering Grades 6-8
Full Day Only - Includes Field Trip*

Take on the creative challenge of aerospace engineering! Work in teams using LEGO NX hardware and Computer Aided Design to plan, build and program a working robot. Master the use of different sensors to complete tasks of increasing complexity culminating in a Friday design competition, and then turn to nuts and bolts to build a take-home robot able to be programmed with software downloadable to any home computer.

Participate in a special field trip to San Francisco International Airport to observe modern aircraft in action. Tour the United Airlines Maintenance facility (security conditions permitting) for a unique close-up view of the engines, airframes and aerostructures used in 21st-century aircraft. Explore all aspects of the engineering design process with other activities including gliders, capacitor-powered cars, flight simulation and more!
