Vehicle Donation

Donating your car, boat, RV, truck or other vehicle is a great way to support the Hiller Aviation Museum ! The funds from your donated vehicle support museum exhibits and educational programs that inspire over 80,000 family visitors each year, including over 10,000 children from local schools.

The Museum has partnered with Auction City and Vehicles for Charity to make the process of donating your vehicle as seamless and pleasant as possible. In most cases, your vehicle can be picked up within 48 hours.

With changes in the IRS tax law as of January 2005, how your vehicle is remarketed is particularly important in terms of how much you can deduct for your donation. Your deduction is now based upon the actual selling price of your vehicle or a standard $500 deduction, whichever is greater. Please note that deductions only apply if you itemize your deductions. Please consult with your tax preparer for further information and visit the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov/

Vehicle Donation FAQ

How does the museum benefit from my vehicle donation? Vehicles are sold via auction and proceeds from the sale help directly fund the museum's exhibits and programs.

How do I benefit from donating my vehicle? You receive a tax deduction based on the actual selling price of your vehicle or $500, whichever is greater. Please consult with your tax preparer for specific details.

Once I submit my information, what happens? A representative of the museum's auction partner, Auction City, will contact you within 24 hours to schedule a pick up time, usually within 2 to 3 business days. You can also contact Auction City, directly, at 888-500-1555 or 650-367-7788 to schedule a pick up.

Who will be picking up my vehicle and what paperwork will I receive? A towing service will pick up your vehicle at the scheduled time and provide you with an initial donation receipt.

What paperwork will I receive once the vehicle is sold? If your vehicle sells for more than $500 and you itemize your deductions, you can be provided with an IRS 1098C form.

What if I have more questions? Your additional questions can be answered by the museum's auction partner who will contact you within 24 hours after submitting your information.
