Education Director – Full Time

The Hiller Aviation Museum seeks a dynamic and dedicated educator to join a closely-working team as Education Director to develop and implement K-12 education programs. The Hiller Aviation Museum supports an extensive range of STEM-based aerospace and science experiences, serving school field trip groups, Boy/Girl Scout programs, offsite after-school programs, comprehensive day camp experiences and more. A 29,000 square foot exhibit gallery hosting 50 different historic aircraft provides an engaging backdrop for delivering innovative and authentic hands-on experiences with tools ranging from flight simulators and drone flight centers to 3D printers and full size aircraft.

This position reports to the VP of Education and Public Programs and provides guidance and leadership within the Museum’s Education Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing new curriculum for different Museum audiences, recruiting, hiring and training part-time and seasonal staff members, and working directly with schools, parents, and other program stakeholders to support delivery of education-related programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement a wide range of sophisticated STEM-focused educational programs such as Aviation Day Camp, hands-on programs for school groups and the general public, guided tours and Scout programs, in coordination with the VP of Education and Public Programs.
  • Assist with the creation and development of STEM program topics and curricula, in coordination with the VP of Education and Public Programs.
  • Conduct administrative and logistical tasks related to program management, including materials procurement and organization of storage.
  • Schedule field trips, group tours, camps and other Museum activities requiring advance reservations, in coordination with the VP of Education and Public Programs.
  • Supervise part-time education staff and education volunteers and align their tasks to support education program activities, as needed.

Experience Requirements

A bachelor’s degree, preferably in the sciences or an education-related field, is required. At least two years teaching experience, preferably in a combination of formal and informal environments, is required. Experience in developing and delivering STEM programs. Experience with aerospace-related subjects including aviation, robotics and space is a plus but not required.

Wages and Benfits

Salary range is $53,000-$63,000, annually, commensurate with experience and academic preparation. Full benefits include medical and retirement plans and generous vacation allowances.
