Beer Meister arrives by helicopter!
10:50 AM

Since 1810 the city of Munich has been hosting the world’s largest beer party. Over 7 Million visitors come to Munich to enjoy liters (34 OZ) of beer. The glass is called a MASS and it’s the only size you can order. Only Munich beers are allowed to take part in the festival. Each year, on the third Saturday of September, in one of the tents, the Mayor of Munich must tap the first keg. Before he successfully does this, no beer is allowed to be served. The visitors are sitting and waiting with anticipation for him to hit the bung into the keg. If he is able to do this in less than 3 hits his chances of getting re-elected goes up substantially. The current Mayor has done this in two or less tries for the last 12 years thus his status will continue. Once he has tapped the keg he shouts out: OZAPFT ist....which means – it’s tapped and lets have a beer!

The Peninsula Oktoberfest will replicate this opening ritual with a twist – our Mayor or Beer Meister will arrive by helicopter to tap the first keg!
