Aero Design Challenge – Helicopters
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (Special Time)

Put your engineering skills to the test in the Aero Workshop!  Each session is a special 2-hour mini design challenge designed for children ages 8-12.  Each workshop centers on a particular problem in aerospace illustrated by a pair of hands-on experiences.  Participants then work in small teams of 3-5 to design, build and test a working invention, then launching it in a culminating competition.

Mars Lander

Investigate the technologies used to land robots on alien worlds, then construct a device able to protect an instrumented payload from shock damage when dropped from altitude!

Water Rockets

Find out about Newton’s Third Law and the science of rocketry, then build and launch a unique water-powered rocket on a mission to achieve maximum flight time!

Distance Gliders

Discover the science of long-distance sailplane flight, then construct a flying model glider able to complete long, unpowered flights!

Aero Design Challenge

Join the Museum’s annual celebration of the engineering design process!  Visit the Aero Design Challenge page for more information or to make a reservation.
