Extreme Flight Camp Details
Discover the limits of the world of flight from first to fastest, from biggest to smallest, and all of the awesome aviation innovations in between!
Follow in the footsteps of the earliest aviators, from balloon and glider pioneers to the groundbreaking work of Wilbur and Orville Wright. Check out in the cockpits of many historical aircraft, and construct flying models of many different types of flying machines. Accelerate into the realm of supersonic flight in an exploration of high speed aviation. Experiment with sound waves and pilot a supersonic aircraft in the flight simulators to discovery the perils and promise of future travel beyond the sound barrier.

EXAMPLE OF EXTREME FLIGHT CURRICULUM
LESSON |
DESCRIPTION |
| Aircraft Carriers | Observed carrier landings and created a glider with a tailhook to catch on a mock carrier. |
| Birds | Learned about birds and their behaviors. Built a birdhouse. |
| Compasses | Learned about navigation and practiced using a compass while navigating through the museum. |
| Drone Plex | Flew a simulated quadcopter and piloted an actual drone through the Drone Plex. |
| Field Trip | Visited the USS Hornet in Alameda to learn about aircraft carriers firsthand. |
| Flight Sims: Aerobatics | Flew an aerobatic plane in the flight simulators |
| Flight Sims: Gliders | Flew a glider in the flight simulators. |
| Flight Sims: Intro | Completed introductory flight simulations learning how to fly straight and level, land, and take-off. |
| Flight Sims: Water Landing | Flew an amphibious aircraft and landed attempted water landing |
| Gliders – Fighter Jet | Explored glider flight and launched their own jet-shaped glider. |
| Gliders – UAV | Designed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using balsa wood gliders and craft materials, each built with a specific function or task in mind. |
| Magnet – Racers | Explored magnets through hands-on experimentation. |
| Owl Pellets | Learned about owls and investigated owl pellets. |
| Parachutes | Explored drag by using parachutes to observe how they slow motion. |
| Polar Flight | Observed the effects of different types of landing gear on land and snow (insta-snow) and designed their own to test how it impacted landings. |
| Propeller Car | Built propeller cars powered by rubber band motors. |
| Rockets – Water | Tested Newton’s Third Law of Motion using water rockets. |
