Educator – Weekdays, Part-Time

Weekday Educators teach engaging, hands-on science and aviation programs for students while working behind the scenes at a unique museum located at one of California’s busiest general aviation airports.
This position is primarily responsible for facilitating K-12 field trip programs, with additional opportunities to support gallery learning experiences, educational assemblies, special events, and other museum programs. Educators utilize strong teaching and facilitation skills to engage a wide range of learners both on-site at the museum and, when needed, at off-site locations.
Pay: $23–$26 per hour, depending on experience
This is a year-round position with scheduling based on school field trip reservations. While bookings may occur throughout the year, most field trips take place between October and May. Eligible staff may choose to supplement their hours through additional Education Department roles, including Weekend Educator and Camp Staff positions.

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; a bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school-aged students.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse audiences in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service, public speaking, and active listening skills.
- Experience working with youth in formal or informal educational settings.
- Interest in science, engineering, aviation, or aerospace is a plus, but not required. Comprehensive curriculum materials and training are provided.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with students for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, move, and set up educational materials and program equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and move throughout exhibit spaces, classrooms, storage areas, and outdoor areas as needed.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic museum environment that may include moderate noise levels, large groups of students, and varying activity levels.
- Ability to safely supervise and interact with children in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Ability to operate basic office and educational technology, including computers, tablets, projectors, and presentation equipment.
- Ability to travel locally for off-site educational programs and outreach events when assigned.
Working Conditions and Schedule
- This is an on-site position based at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California.
- Field trip programs are generally conducted on weekday mornings.
- Typical shifts are 2 to 4 hours in length and occur between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
- Schedules vary based on school reservations and instructor availability.
- Educators typically work 2 to 4 field trip days per week, averaging approximately 15 to 40 hours per month.
- Additional hours may be available through afternoon programs, weekend events, and seasonal camp assignments.
Optional Additional Shifts
Weekday Educators may choose to accept additional assignments to increase their hours, including:
- Weekend Program Educator
- Shifts range from 3 to 8 hours depending on the program or event.
- Seasonal Aviation Camp Staff
- Camp programs operate during school breaks throughout the year.
- Typical camp hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Opportunities may be available during summer, holiday, and select school break camps.
