Field Trip Instructor – Part Time
Overview
Join us to work with kids and aircraft at the Hiller Aviation Museum!
Field Trip instructors teach hands-on science- and flight-themed lessons to students Grades K-12 while working behind-the-scenes at a unique Museum located at one of California’s busiest small airports. Activities include leading virtual Zoom sessions broadcast from inside the Hiller Aviation Museum for K-12 school and Scout groups, and in-person instruction to students participating in onsite after-school and Aviation Camp programs.
Instructor positions pay $17 – $20/hr, depending on experience.
Requirements
Instructors must have experience working with elementary or middle-school children and good classroom management skills. Familiarity with science and/or aviation is a plus but not essential—teachers comfortable with elementary-aged students can readily learn the aerospace-specific content with the provided curriculum and training.
Virtual programs take place weekday mornings, with typical shift times 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. After-school programs run Monday-Friday 2 PM – 5 PM, and seasonal Aviation Camp shifts are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Shifts vary based on reservations and instructor availability, but instructors typically work 1-2 virtual programs and 2-3 days of after-school programs per week, for a total of 40-60 hours/month. Availability for weekend programs is helpful but not required, with additional hours available through weekend shifts.
How to Apply
To apply, submit a resume and cover letter in PDF format to Linh Fanger, Director of Education, at education@hiller.org. Include “Field Trip Instructor” in the subject line. Finalists for instructor positions will be required to present a demonstration lesson at the Museum as part of their application process.
